چکیده

Since its founding, NASA has been dedicated to the advancement of aeronautics and space science. The NASA scientific and technical information (STI) program plays a key part in helping NASA maintain this important role. The NASA STI program operates under the auspices of the Agency Chief Information Officer. It collects, organizes, provides for archiving, and disseminates NASA's STI. The NASA STI program provides access to the NASA Aeronautics and Space Database and its public interface, the NASA Technical Reports Server, thus providing one of the largest collections of aeronautical and space science STI in the world. Results are published in both non-NASA channels and by NASA in the NASA STI Report Series, which includes the following report types: x TECHNICAL PUBLICATION. Reports of completed research or a major significant phase of research that present the results of NASA Programs and include extensive data or theoretical analysis. Includes compilations of significant scientific and technical data and information deemed to be of continuing reference value. NASA counterpart of peer-reviewed formal professional papers but has less stringent limitations on manuscript length and extent of graphic presentations. Scientific and technical findings that are preliminary or of specialized interest, e.g., quick release reports, working papers, and bibliographies that contain minimal annotation. Does not contain extensive analysis. x CONTRACTOR REPORT. Scientific and technical findings by NASA-sponsored contractors and grantees. x CONFERENCE PUBLICATION. Collected papers from scientific and technical conferences, symposia, seminars, or other meetings sponsored or co-sponsored by NASA. English-language translations of foreign scientific and technical material pertinent to NASA's mission. Specialized services also include organizing and publishing research results, distributing specialized research announcements and feeds, providing information desk and personal search support, and enabling data exchange services. Launch Vehicle Manual Steering with Adaptive Augmenting Control: In-Flight Evaluations of Adverse Interactions Using a Piloted Aircraft

An Adaptive Augmenting Control (AAC) algorithm for the Space Launch System (SLS) has been developed at the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) as part of the launch vehicle’s baseline flight control system. A prototype version of the SLS flight control software was hosted on a piloted aircraft at the Armstrong Flight Research Center to demonstrate the adaptive controller on a full-scale realist...

Augmentation of an Intelligent Flight Control System for a Simulated C-17 Aircraft

This paper examines a neural-adaptive flight control system augmented with linear programming theory and adaptive critic techniques for a simulated C-17 aircraft. The baseline Intelligent Flight Control (IFC) system is composed of a neural network based direct adaptive control approach for applying alternate sources of control authority in the presence of damage or failures in order to achieve ...

Eye Tracking Metrics for Workload Estimation in flight Deck Operation

Flight decks of the future are being enhanced through improved avionics that adapt to both aircraft and operator state. Eye tracking allows for non-invasive analysis of pilot eye movements, from which a set of metrics can be derived to effectively and reliably characterize workload. This research identifies eye tracking metrics that correlate to aircraft automation conditions, and identifies th...

Handling Qualities Evaluation of Xv-15 Noise Abatement Landing Approaches Using a Flight Simulator

A piloted simulation experiment was conducted in the Vertical Motion Simulator to evaluate the handling qualities of noise abatement approach procedures for a civil tiltrotor. Approach and landing procedures flown on the XV-15 tiltrotor research aircraft were evaluated in the simulator by a larger pilot population. The impact on handling qualities of attitude stabilization control responseand w...

Flight Simulator Evaluation of Enhanced Propulsion Control Modes for Emergency Operation

This paper describes piloted evaluation of enhanced propulsion control modes for emergency operation of aircraft. Fast Response and Overthrust modes were implemented to assess their ability to help avoid or mitigate potentially catastrophic situations, both on the ground and in flight. Tests were conducted to determine the reduction in takeoff distance achievable using the Overthrust mode. Also...
